Explore South Hams

Situated in South Devon, the South Hams is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with glorious beaches and stunning coastal and unspoilt countyside.

Please use the links below to explore three popular towns with the South Hams.

South Hams
Dartmouth.

South of Torbay, and eight miles downstream from Totnes, Dartmouth has thrived since the Normans recognized the potential of this deepwater port for trading with their home country, and today its activities embrace fishing, freight and a booming leisure industry.

Salcombe.

Salcombe is situated in the South Hams, an area between the Dart and Plym estuaries and is set around some of Devon's most attractive villages and a striking coastline.

Totnes.

Totnes is situated on the West bank of the River Dart and has an ancient pedigree, its period of greatest prosperity occurring in the sixteenth century when this inland port exported cloth to France and brought back wine.

Some handsome structures from that era remain, and there is still a working port down on the river, but these days Totnes has mellowed into a residential market town, enjoying an esoteric fame as a centre of the New Age crowd.
